The clients approached me to help update their backyard. After the initial consultation and some back and forth discussing some pretty cool ideas, they changed their minds from a basic refresh into something quite major.

I suggested we engage a designer to help get the ideas down on paper and into a more concrete design. I suggested Wendy from Embrace Landscape Design.

We changed all the levels of the yard, raising the majority of the space to take advantage of the bush outlook. We removed the rear Colourbond fence and replaced it with a cyclone mesh fence which instantly made the space feel 10 times the size.

Vergola installed a beautiful louvered roof, with full automation, and heating options. We personalised the build with some beautiful recycled spotted gum posts from IRONWOOD which started life as bridge supports.

We continued the recycled theme by using recycled bricks from a demolished house in the inner west, to build an “old-school” wood fired BBQ complete with concrete bench tops, timber storage, custom grill plates, fire shelf, and chimney.

The curved Blackbutt Decking on Steel frame wrapped in Corten Steel continues the Industrial/recycled aesthetic. Providing a transition from the covered area through the BBQ space, and up to and elevated seating platform with floating bench to allow the view to be completely taken in.

Sandblasted Grey marble paving from our friends at Lithic Australia provides a practical and stylish surface for the alfresco floor and matches nicely with the interior tiling.

The clients wanted something special for the crazy paved/stepping stone court. I enlisted the help of our friends at STONELIFE to find something unusual and eye catching. We settled on Wee Jasper Bluestone, from the south coast of NSW. Amazing earthy colours and splashes of Blue when wet make this stone simply stunning and a one-of-a kind feature! The 200kg plus pieces were a challenge to move by hand, but well worth the sweat!

Wendy’s choice of predominately native plants to bring the bush into the backyard was inspired. The continued planting and rejuvenation of the existing bush by the clients has blurred the lines between where our landscaping finishes and where the bush begins, and only further enhances Wendy’s design and our workmanship.
Custom laser cut steel screens from Ironbark Metal Design and more Corten steel garden art round off this wonderful project.

This is truly and amazing space and there are custom touches and pieces everywhere you look. We could spend hours here!
